Business Licensing

The City of Conway requires every person or entity engaged or intending to engage in any calling, business, occupation or profession, within the city limits of Conway to pay an annual license fee and obtain a business license. 

The required annual fee shall be paid on or before April 30th. The Business License Inspector shall levy and collect a late penalty for each month after the due date until the license has been paid.

New businesses are required to have a business license prior to operation within the City.

Local Hospitality and Accommodations
  • A uniform fee equal to one (1) percent is hereby imposed on all gross proceeds derived from:
    • The rental or charges for any room, campground spaces, lodging, or sleeping accommodations furnished to transients by any hotel, inn, tourist court, tourist camp, motel, campground, residence, or any place which rooms, lodgings, or sleeping accommodations are furnished to transients for a consideration. This fee shall not apply where the facilities consist of less than six sleeping rooms contained in a single building if the building is used as the owner's primary place of abode. The gross proceeds derived from the lease or rental of sleeping accommodations supplied to the same person for a period of 90 continuous days are not considered proceeds from transients. This fee imposed by this subsection shall not apply to additional guest charges as that term is defined in S.C. Code Section 12-36-920(B);
    • The sale of all food and beverages, served by a restaurant, hotel, motel, or other food service facility within the City of Conway. In addition, the fee shall be imposed for all food and beverages prepared or modified by convenience stores for grocery stores within the City of Conway;
    • Paid admissions to places of amusement within the City of Conway. Provided, however, that those places of admission which are specifically exempted from payment of the state license tax on admissions established in South Carolina Code Section 12-21-2420 shall also be exempt from this hospitality fee. 

An additional half, (.5) percent is collected on short-term or transient accommodations.

Accommodations Fee Report 
Establishments collecting the Hospitality and/or Accommodations Fees must remit the fees to the City of Conway on a monthly basis. Payments are due by the 20th of the following month. Penalties are assessed by the City for late remittance.
