Thomas J. “Tom” Anderson



Thomas J. “Tom” Anderson
was re-elected to City Council to serve a term from 2007 until 2011.  He was first elected to City Council in 1998, serving as the Mayor Pro Tem in 2000 and 2011.  Councilman Anderson is a past President of The Theatre of the Republic and worked for the SC House of Representatives while at the University of South Carolina. He served two years as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Horry County Solid Waste Authority.   Councilman Anderson is employed as a General Contractor specializing in Historic renovation, both residential and commercial, as well as, custom homes. He is the son of Peggy Anderson and the late Thomas J. "Tom" Anderson.   He and his wife, April, have two children—Caroline and Thomas J. and they attend the First Baptist Church of Conway.

Irby L. Koon

rby L. Koon has served on Conway’s City Council since 1998 and as Mayor Pro Tem in 2002 and 2007.  Councilman Koon retired as an Educational Administrator for Horry County Schools.  His wife, Lynne, is a retired teacher with Horry County Schools.
 

Mayor Alys C. Lawson

 

Alys C. Lawson has been a member of Conway City Council since 1999 and served as Mayor Pro Tem in 2002 and from January 14 to September 13, 2008.  On September 14, 2008, she assumed the position of Mayor following the death of former Mayor Gregory K. Martin. On December 9th of that year, Mrs. Lawson was elected to serve Mayor Martin’s unexpired term in a special election and was sworn in as Mayor on December 22, 2008, during a special City Council meeting. She was reelected in November 2011 for a four-year term as Mayor. In July, 2009, she was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Municipal Association of South Carolina, and in December, 2009, she was elected as Chairman of the Horry County League of Cities. Mrs. Lawson has served on the Collins Park Committee and the City Election Commission where she was chairman.  She has been married to Ed Lawson for 28 years and is the mother of two: Kate, 25, and Paul, 23.  Kate is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and is a third-year law student at the University of Georgia.  Paul is a graduate of USC Columbia and plans to attend Law School in the fall.  Mrs. Lawson has served as moderator of Presbyterian Women and as a Deacon and Elder at Kingston Presbyterian Church. She is the Day Manager at Conway’s Rivertown Bistro.

Barbara Jo Blain-Olds

Attorney Barbara Jo Blain-Olds is a native of Conway, and has been involved in public service her entire adult life. She was sworn in on January, 9, 2012, having previously served on city council from 1993 – 1998, and having acted as Mayor Pro Tem in 1996. Ms. Blain-Olds served four years as Conway's assistant city administrator. In January 2011, she founded Community Legal Services, a non-traditional private law office providing legal services to low and moderate-income families. She is also the staff attorney for COAST Regional Transportation Authority.

 

Ms. Blain-Olds received a juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in December 2000, and was sworn into the S. C. Bar Association in May 2001. She has held positions as an asst. public defender with the Horry County Public Defender, staff attorney with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, and asst. solicitor with the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor.

 

Ms. Blain-Olds also holds Masters and Bachelors degrees from the University of South Carolina in Education and Sociology respectively, and is a graduate of the Inaugural Waccamaw Class of the American Leadership Forum, Leadership South Carolina, Leadership Grand Strand and the Municipal Elected Officials Institute of Government. She currently serves on the boards of PALM Motor Sports School, the Horry County Historical Society, the Regional Education Center, and is the past leader of Girl Scout Troop 88.

 

Ms. Blain-Olds is the 2011 recipient of Leadership Grand Strand's Ann Debock Leadership Award, the 2010 Girl Scouts of Eastern S.C.'s Mary Brewer Women of Distinction Award, the 2009 Zonta International Gold Star Award, the 2009 Omega Psi Phi Community Service award, and the 2009 NAACP Leadership Award.

 

Ms. Blain-Olds is married to Jesse L. Olds, Jr., and has one adult son, Craigon Lennon. She is a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she is a Youth Usher leader.

 

Jean Medlen Timbes

 

Jean Medlen Timbes was first elected to Conway City Council in 2002 and is now serving her third term.  Ms. Timbes held the position of Mayor Pro Tem in 2004 and 2010.  Prior to running for Council, Ms. Timbes served on the Conway Planning and Zoning Commission.  She is a retired math teacher for Horry County Schools, having served Conway High School, the State Department of Education as a Teacher Specialist for Mathematics, and Coastal Carolina University as an adjunct faculty member. Ms. Timbes has served on many city committees, including Parks and Recreation, Tourism, Capital Improvements, Smith-Jones, Riverfront Steering Committee, Lakeside Cemetery Committee, and the Snowhill Neighborhood Association.  She is appointed to the Board of Directors of Conway Main Street, USA, also serving on the Main Street Organizational Committee.  Ms. Timbes also serves on the Board of Directors for the Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments.  She is a past member of the Conway Chamber of Commerce Board of Government and Economic Affairs, an active member of the Horry County Historical Society, and is the Managing Member of Main & Fifth Properties, LLC. Ms. Timbes is an active member of First United Methodist Church where she sings in the choir and is a church pianist.  She is the Chairman of the Sanctuary Renovation Committee and a member of the Capital Building Committee.  She is a past president of the United Methodist Women.  Ms. Timbes belongs to the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a society for women educators, serving in several leadership positions.   Her family includes two sons:  Mark Timbes, his wife Clay, and their two daughters, Kate and Anna; and Michael Timbes and his wife Ashley, and their son, Walker.

 

Larry A. White



 

Larry A. White was elected to City Council in a special election on March 10, 2009.  He is a graduate of Conway High School and Elizabeth City State University.  Formerly a teacher at Socastee Middle School, he is currently employed by Region 6 of the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). He is a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church where he serves in a number of areas.  He is a board member for the Horry County Diabetes Coalition, Horry County Tobacco Coalition (now renamed B.R.E.A.T.H.E.), A Father’s Place, and a member of Morning Star Lodge #72.  Larry is a former Board Member of Horry County First Steps and former Chairman of the Smith-Jones Community Center.  He has four children and nine grandchildren.
