Steps to Obtain Building Permits
Commercial
- All plans must first be approved by the Planning and Zoning Department.
- All Commercial Buildings must go through the Zoning Department prior to any correspondence
with the Building Department. After the Zoning Department has approved all plans, you may then
follow the steps listed on the residential listing.
- State laws governing contractors licensing must be adhered to prior to furnishing plans.
- Furnish two sets of engineered plans along with permit application and a list of subcontractors
to the Building Department.
- Allow up to two weeks for review and approval of the plans. After
zoning approval some large projects could take longer.
- Upon approval you will be called to pick up the permit. At this time you will take the application
to the City Hall Annex building where they will check your business license and take your payment for
the permit. ( You may also be required to pay for any water / sewer tap fees that may apply to your
construction.)
- You will bring your receipt back to the building department and your permit will then be issued.
- You must begin construction within six months of obtaining the permit, after six months if you have
failed to start the permit is null and void. At this time you will be required to apply for a new permit.
