Conway, South Carolina (May 8, 2018) – The City of Conway has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. City of Conway Finance Director Allison Williams presented the award in Monday night's council meeting. She says the department strives to provide citizens confidence in how the City's resources are managed. “I am proud of our staff's continued accomplishments in financial reporting. Accurate financial reports give Council the opportunity to make the most fiscally responsible decisions for our City and provides,” said Williams. The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. This is the thirteenth consecutive year the City of Conway has received the award. The department has received twenty-eight total awards in the last thirty-one years.
