The Planning Department is responsible for the land use planning, zoning administration, and land development activities in the city. The department is responsible for long-range comprehensive planning, annexation, historic preservation and participation in special projects such and the Waccamaw Riverfront Development. Additionally, the Planning Staff reviews all plans for zoning compliance and working with developers to answer zoning questions. The staff handles all rezoning requests and serves as the staff liaison for the Planning Commission, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Community Appearance Board.
The department is charged with the enforcement of Flood Plain Management working with FEMA and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
The Planning Department is usually the first point of contact for an individual or company seeking to do a development project in the Conway city limits.
