Street
and Storm Drainage Division
The Street
Division is responsible for construction and maintenance of
city owned streets, storm water system, street signs, sidewalks,
asphalt patching and resurfacing plus the upkeep of Lakeside
and Rosehill cemeteries.
- Street
resurfacing - An annual survey is made with recommendations
to city administration and the S.C.Department of Transportation.
The city owns approximately 40 percent of streets within the
city limits. Funding is provided by the street and drainage
fund and the County Transportation Committee.
- Street
patching - The Street Division patches potholes on a regular
and call-in basis. The city is not responsible for private
streets and property such as shopping centers.
- Sidewalks
- The Street Division is responsible for installing and maintaining
all city owned public sidewalks. Minor repair and replacement
is also provided by the street division.
- Storm
drainage - The street division is also responsible for
the installation and maintenance of the city owned storm water
system. This includes storm services, catch basins, inlets,
open ditches and some holding ponds. Improvements to the storm
water system is funded through the street and drainage fund.
The Crabtree watershed is maintained by the Horry County Public
Works Department at (843) 365-2519.
- Cemeteries
- The Street Division is also responsible for the maintenance
and care of Lakeside and Rosehill cemeteries.
- Traffic
signals - Traffic signals are provided and serviced by
the S.C. Department of Transportation, (843) 365-2130.
- Street
lighting - Street lighting is provided by Santee Cooper
and Horry Electric Cooperative. The city policy for street
lighting consists of each intersection, cul-d-sacs, sharp
curves, dead ends and blocks over 800-feet qualify for a placement
in between. In some cases, special lighting may be placed
with approval of staff.
