Solid Waste Division

The Solid Waste Division provides residential garbage, curbside, yard debris, recycling, bulk collectors as well as commercial dumpsters and roll off service. The city is divided into five areas that are serviced Monday through Friday with each area having its individual service day. All materials should be in their related piles for pick-up.

• Garbage collection - Garbage is collected once a week. The solid waste must be in a roll-out cart, purchased through the finance department. The cart must be out by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Commercial collection is provided to all businesses and apartment complexes which use dumpsters.
   
• Recycling pick-up - The city provides its customers with a green bin for the recyclables. This bin is placed along with the cart on your day of collection. Recycling is voluntary and additional bins can be provided.
   
• Debris removal - Yard debris, which includes leaves and small branches, is picked up on normal collection day; however, during heavy leaf season, please allow up to 48 hours from day of collection for pick-up. Yard debris must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on your normal collection day. Limbs should not exceed 4-feet in length, and this does not include stumps, logs or tree limbs resulting from the removal of trees. Do not mix yard debris with appliances, metals, furniture or other bulk items.
   
• Bulk items pick-up - The city provides large item pick-up to residential customers only. Bulk items include washing machines, hot water heaters, furniture and bedding material. This does not include building materials, roofing, rocks or concrete. Items should be placed by curb by 7 a.m. on your normal pick-up day.
   
• Collection schedules - Normal collector schedules are altered due to the holidays. These are published in the paper, posted or on the local cable channels. Brochures are given out to each customer affected by the pick-up change.
   
• Street sweeping - The city provides sweeping to all streets which have curbs and gutters. This service is performed weekly and in some business areas twice weekly.
   
• Mosquito spraying - The city provides mosquito sprays during the summer months on an as needed basis.
   
• Commercial service - This service is provided to all businesses six days per week to include frontload dumpsters, rolloffs, cardboard recycling and the same recycling for plastics, cans and glass products that is offered to households. We also have an office paper program which includes copy and computer paper.
