Board of Zoning Appeals
:
The duties & powers of the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) are derived from Section 6-29-800 of the South Carolina Code of Laws.

The BZA hears and decides appeals where it is alleged the City Planner erred in an order, requirement, decision, or determination.

The BZA also hears and decides appeals for variances in specific cases when a strict application of the zoning ordinance would cause an unnecessary hardship, and approval of such variance would not be contrary to public interest or undermine the spirit of the zoning ordinance.

Any person aggrieved by an administrative action or decision or seeking relief from a requirement in the Zoning Ordinance, shall make a formal request on an application for the BZA.

Notice of regularly scheduled meetings of the BZA shall be published in a general circulation newspaper fifteen (15) days prior to the date of the meeting.

BZA meetings shall be held at the place stated in the notices and shall be open to the public.

All final decisions and orders of the BZA shall be in writing and be permanently filed in the office of the Board as a public record.
