Community Workshops Planned for Old Whittemore School Site
Conway, SC (May 30, 2018) – The City of Conway will host a series of workshops in June to hear input from members of the community on what they’d like to see done with the old Whittemore school building.
The City of Conway recently purchased the building from Horry County Schools and now must decide its best use for the community.
The first meeting will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 6:00 pm in the Whittemore Park Middle School Cafeteria (1808 Rhue Street), and everyone in the community is invited to attend.
City Grants Coordinator John Rogers says this project presents a rare opportunity for the City to seek grant funding to build a transformative program for the community, and a critical part of that is bringing the community together to give their input and assure all voices contribute to the final result.
“Even if you have a small idea, or you think your idea has already been heard, we still want you to take part. The simplest idea could be the spark that sets everything in motion,” said Rogers.
City Administrator Adam Emrick says he’s excited about what this project could mean for the City of Conway.
“We want to create a place kids in our community will want to be, and that’s why it’s so important that we hear input from the people who live here. We want your thoughts and ideas to be what drives this project and makes it something great for the City of Conway,” said Emrick.
The City will host a second meeting on Monday, June 25 at 6:00 pm at the Conway Recreation Center (1515 Mill Pond Road).
