City of Conway Begins Chicora Subdivision Drainage Improvement Project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Conway Begins Chicora Subdivision Drainage Improvement Project
Conway, SC (January 2, 2018) – The City of Conway Chicora Drainage Improvement Project is now
underway. Construction is expected to take six months to complete. During that time, drivers
can expect some lane closures on the interior roads of the Chicora neighborhood.
This project will help to significantly improve drainage in the Chicora Subdivision. The Chicora
neighborhood often experiences street flooding after heavy rain, and homeowners have to deal
with ponding in their yards. Improving the drainage infrastructure in that area of the City has been
a goal of Conway City Council for several years.
This project was made possible by a grant from the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority
(RIA). This is Conway’s first grant from RIA, an agency funded with state funds appropriated by
the South Carolina Legislature. According to its website, “The SC Rural Infrastructure Authority
was established in 2012 to assist communities with financing for qualified infrastructure
projects for water and waste water systems as well as storm water drainage facilities.”
