City of Conway Moves to Opcon 2 Ahead of Winter Storm

CONWAY, SC (January 19, 2022)- The City of Conway has moved to OPCON 2 (Level 2 Operation Condition) in anticipation of winter weather watches issued for our area beginning Midnight, Friday January 21, 2022. That means the city is now operating in an enhanced state of awareness and emergency plans are beginning to be implemented.

The City’s Emergency Operations Center is not currently activated. However, City officials are closely monitoring the storm and are in constant communication with officials from the state and with Horry County Emergency Management. We will continue to keep the public aware of changes in the forecast and any changes to the actions and operations of the City of Conway.

In anticipation of possible effects in our area from the storm, residents should begin preparation now by:

Surveying your property to mitigate potential damage. Trim any tree branches that could cause potential damage to your home. Insulate water pipes around the home that are exposed to outside air.

Ensuring family emergency kits are ready; including items like water, batteries, flashlights, etc.

Continually monitoring reputable weather information sources such as local media or the National Weather Service for the most up to date information.

Having vehicles fueled up.

Making plans for pets.

Charge devices including battery packs.

Having supplies for your family like nonperishable food, prescription medication, first aid kit, hygiene items like diapers and toilet paper.
