CITY OF CONWAY EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER DEACTIVATES, MOVES TO OPCON 2

City of Conway is now operating at OPCON 2. The Emergency Operations Center is no longer activated. Crews will continue to complete any damage assessments and clear debris.

All facilities will return to normal operation on Saturday, October 1.

SOLID WASTE COLLECTION UPDATES

Solid Waste collection will resume Monday, October 3 . Trash collection that was cancelled Friday, September 30 will be collected Monday, October 3.

All Monday routes will be picked up as regularly scheduled. Please keep in mind that Solid Waste crews will be running extended routes and your trash pickup may be later or earlier than usual. Please have your rollout carts and debris by the curb at 7:00am.

Call (843)248.1790 to report a downed tree in the City of Conway.

If you have a downed tree that is touching a powerline, ALWAYS assume it's live and deadly. Stay back at least the length of a school bus.

CITY OF CONWAY NON-EMERGENCY RELATED CREWS REMOVED FROM ROADWAYS

As of 12:45pm, September 30: City of Conway crews have been removed from the roadways as sustained winds are now above 40mph. Crews will return when it is safe to do so.
First Responders (Public Safety) are still responding.

WINDS ARE INCREASING IN OUR AREA, PLEASE TAKE COVER

We are beginning to see high wind speeds in our area. Sustatained wind and wind gust could exceed hurricane force(74+ mph). The conditions are expected to continue throughout the day.
We encourage you to stay home, hurricane force sustained winds may prevent first responders from assisting you on the roadways.

CITY OF CONWAY NOW OPERATING AT OPCON 1

City of Conway is now opearting at OPCON 1. A disaster or emergency is imminent or occurring. Emergency operations personnel are now fully activated and prepared to respond.
 
Keep in mind that when sustained winds reach certain thresholds crews may not be able to respond.

CITY OFFICES CLOSED

All City of Conway offices and facilities will be closed Friday, September 30, 2022 due to expected impacts from Hurricane Ian.

City of Conway emergency operations personnel will continue to provide critical services.

SOLID WASTE COLLECTION CANCELLED - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2022

Solid Waste Collection for trash pickup Friday, September 30, 2022 has been cancelled due to the closure of Horry County Solid Waste Authority. Solid Waste Collection for Friday, September 30, 2022 has been tentatively rescheduled for Monday, October 3, 2022.
Reminders:
-Secure rollout carts and bulk items for solid waste collection, remove them from the curb for the duration of tropical weather.
-Yard debris needs to be removed from street, curbing, stormwater drains, and ditches. Yard debris can cause blockages in the storm water system and lead to water pooling in yards and streets.

*Should the City receive damages solid waste collection could be further delayed. Please continue to check for updates here or at www.CityofConway.com.

CONWAY CITY COUNCIL DECLARES LOCALIZED STATE IN ANTICIPATION OF IMPACTS FROM TROPICAL STORM IAN

The City of Conway held an Emergency Meeting on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 10:30am via zoom. Conway City Council passed an ordinance declaring a localized state of emergency to go into effect immediately. This declaration allows appropriate actions by city officials to address emergencies affecting life, health, safety or the property of the people.

The City of Conway has moved to OPCON 2 – Enhanced Awareness, emergency plans are being implemented. The City of Conway Emergency Operations Center is now partially activated. Full activation of the Emergency Operations Center is expected by Friday, September 30. City officials will continue to monitor conditions in our area and work with our local, state, and federal partners.

Please continue to monitor weather conditions by trusted sources and prepare your family, home, and business for potentially dangerous tropical weather. If you live in a low-lying area, please be prepared to leave your home. If you are not sure about areas that have seen flooding in the past, maps are available HERE.

CLOSURES AND CANCELLATIONS FROM CONWAY PARKS AND RECREATION

All Youth Athletics are cancelled from Thursday 9/29 through Sunday October 2. This includes Tackle, Flag, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Cheerleading and Volleyball.  This includes Tiny Tigers scheduled for Saturday.

Kids Carnival scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2022 will be held in conjunction with Smoke on the Waccamaw BBQ Festival on Saturday October, 15, 2022.

BAN ON OPEN BURNING EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY FOR CITY OF CONWAY

Due to hazardous weather conditions over the next several days, the City of Conway Fire Department has issued an open burn ban effective immediately.
What can and cannot be burned?
Can be burned: Chiminea, Fire Pits, Portable outdoor fireplaces, Other approved containers using manufacturer’s guidelines as long as it is not within 15’ of a structure
Not Allowed: Piles of debris, Bonfires, Fields, Yards, Ditches

City of Conway Officials are monitoring Hurricane Ian and preparing for impacts in our area. Please continue to monitor trusted sources like the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center and local meteorologist. Models are not definite and you and your family need to be prepared.

You can start making the following preparations:
Prepare a kit including important documents like insurance policies, water, batteries, flashlights, chargers, blankets, non-perishable food, first aid kit, prescription medication, infant necessities, pet food, manual can food opener, pliers. You can find more supplies here: https://www.ready.gov/kit
-Check on any neighbors or friends who may need extra help preparing.
-Have an evacuation plan. If you live in a low lying area be prepared to leave your home.
-Secure debris and items around your home. Outdoor furniture, trash bins, flag poles can be hazardous in windy conditions and should be put away. Clear any dead or fallen tree branches.
