CITY OF CONWAY HOLDS TREE GIVEAWAY AS PART OF SOUTH CAROLINA ARBOR DAY

CONWAY, SC (November 30, 2021) – The City of Conway will recognize South Carolina Arbor Day as we participate in the “Roots for Our Home Team” tree giveaway.

We invite residents this Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Conway Sports and Fitness Center to take a free tree and plant it at their home. Multiple varieties deemed as the most water-bearing including river birch, hornbeams, oak, and cypress trees will be available.

This initiative is part of the South Carolina Flood Commission’s effort to plant 10 million trees in 10 years. The South Carolina Floodwater Commissions 2019 report noted, “over a year, a single mature tree is capable of absorbing thousands of gallons of rainwater.” The City of Conway remains engaged in projects, like tree giveaways and plants, to continue to expand our tree canopy to minimize damage from future flood events.
