NOW OPEN - City of Conway Building Department and Planning Department Relocate
196 Laurel Street

In November 2021, the City of Conway purchased 196 Laurel Street that was most recently a portion of the Solicitor's Office. The building is the new home to the City of Conway Building Department and Planning Department. The building is approximately 11,000 square feet and is located at the corner of Second Avenue and Laurel Street. City staff completed the 11 month in-house renovation to the building to include new painting, flooring, light fixtures and uncovered original brick. The building has an additional two porches at the side and rear of the facility.

The new building will accommodate two departments that previously worked in several facilities throughout the city and relocate these departments to a central location. This includes the Planning Department staff like Zoning, GIS, Arborist, and Planner. The Building Department staff includes Building Inspectors, Code Enforcement, and Property Maintenance.

The buildings conference space will also house public meetings for several boards and commissions like Community Appearance Board (CAB), Zoning Board of Appeals (BZA), Tree Board, and Planning Commission. The conference room can be accessed via the rear porch that includes a wheel chair lift for accessibility.
