Upcoming Election - Political Sign Ordinance

As the upcoming Special Election, June 13, 2023, approaches, we ask all candidates to review the political sign regulations as stated in the City of Conway Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). A political sign is defined as being a sign erected by a political candidate, group or agent thereof, for the purpose of advertising a candidate or stating a position regarding an issue upon which the votes of the City shall vote.

  1. Number: The number of political signs per lot in any zoning district shall be one (1) sign per candidate or issue.
  2. Sign Area: Such signs shall not exceed four (4) square feet in surface area and may be double-sided.
  3. Location: Political signs may be located in any yard or required yard, but shall not be located in any public right-of-way. Such signs shall not be placed in any required sight distance triangle.
  4. Height: Freestanding political signs shall not project higher than ten (10) feet as measured from average grade of lot. Signs posted in the interior of a building window are not subject to the height requirement.
  5. Timing: Temporary political signage may be erected or maintained for a period not to exceed forty (40) days prior to the date of the election. With the coming election scheduled for June 13, 2023, this means that the signs may not go up before May 4, 2023. Signs shall be removed within seven (7) days following such election (no later than June 20, 2023). In the case of a run-off election, candidates involved in the run-off may leave their signs up until seven (7) days after the run-off election. That means signs for only those candidates involved in a run-off election (set for June 27, 2023) may remain up until July 4, 2023.  Any candidates not qualified for the run-off must have their signs down by June 20, 2023
  6. Violations: Any political signs placed in violation of the above requirements are subject to seizure and permanent disposal.
